Selling your car in the Canary Islands
Listing on MotorCanarias is free for private sellers. Your ad is seen by buyers on the islands who can come and see the car, not casual browsers on the mainland. Follow these steps to sell quickly and safely.

Selling your car in Tenerife or Gran Canaria
Vehicle paperwork depends on the province: Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura come under the DGT provincial traffic office in Las Palmas; Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro under the one in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The notice of sale and many other procedures can be done online on the DGT e-office.
What price should I ask?
Look at real prices of similar cars in the Canaries before you list.
See market pricesFrequently asked questions
How much does it cost to advertise my car on MotorCanarias?
Nothing if you are a private seller: listing your car is free. Dealers have a professional account with their own tools.
Can I sell my car if I live on one of the smaller islands?
Yes. MotorCanarias accepts cars from all 7 islands. Buyers from other islands can come to see the car and take it home by ferry; the ownership transfer works the same way across the Canaries.
What paperwork do I need to sell my car?
The registration certificate (permiso de circulación), the ITV card (ficha técnica) with a valid ITV, your ID and a sale contract signed by both parties. Afterwards, notify the DGT of the sale.
Who pays for the ownership transfer?
Usually the buyer, who pays the DGT fee and, in a private sale, the transfer tax to the Canary Islands Tax Agency (ATC). You can agree otherwise in the contract.
How do I know what price to ask?
Check the market prices and compare with similar cars listed on your island. A realistic price sells faster than a high one you later have to cut.
